Field Notes from the road.

If you read the welcome email you got when you signed up to this newsletter, you might have noticed a line that went something like, “coming to you once a month-ish". Well, seeing that the last newsletter hit your inboxes in late September, it looks like we’re holding true to that “ish”. Never the less, here’s one to close out the year. The Surfer’s Journal Holiday ‘25

A big reason for starting Oak House Productions was to move beyond being a one man show and be able to bring in the right team for each project. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to produce, direct, and photograph The Surfer’s Journal Holiday Campaign, and bring on my good friend and incredibly talented collaborator, Niles Jaron, to handle motion and edit.

The goal for this campaign was to create a collection of stills and video assets that felt both evergreen and holiday, while staying true to TSJ’s trademark quality: thoughtful, understated, and crafted with intention. The result was a body of work that could exist on its own, but still anchor a full seasonal campaign.”

I think my favorite pieces ended up being the single shot ads, quiet moments with the magazine that feel like a breath of fresh air in the middle of a season of non stop noise.
